Baccarat Rules

Baccarat is a very easy game to learn how to play and is really loads of fun.

The baccarat rules are fairly straight-forward and once you have run through this, you will be able to play baccarat with no problems.

When playing baccarat there are only three possible outcomes, namely “player”, “banker” and “tie”.

The term banker and player do not refer to the dealer or the player, but only to betting options. You can either bet on the banker winning the hand or the player winning the hand. Or you can bet on a tie.

Okay , but let’s start with the card values. The numbered cards from 2 to 9 are worth their face value. The 10’s and face cards are worth zero and the aces are worth 1.

The score of your hand is calculated by adding the value of the cards together. If you come to a total of 10 or more, the tens digit is ignored. Here are some examples of hands you can have. If you have a 3 and 4 it is worth 7 in total, but an 8 and 7 will be worth 5 (8+7=15… and the tens digit falls away).

The highest score you can aim for is 9 and the worst hand, coincidentally called “Baccarat” is a value of zero.

How a game of baccarat is played:
Both the banker and player receives two cards, face down. The cards are then turned over and the totals for the player and banker are called by the croupier.  Depending on the value of the hands for the banker and player, they are allowed to draw a single card or stand. The hand with the highest total wins.

If a total of 8 or 9 is achieved on the initial deal, known as a natural, no further cards are drawn.

If not, things will go as follows:

  1. If the player has a hand of 0 to 5 in value a card is drawn. If the player has 6 or 7, he stands.
  2. The banker’s actions depend on what the player has done. If the player did not draw a card and the banker stands on a value of 0 to 5, he draws another card. If the banker has a value of 6 or 7, he stands.
  3. If the Player drew a 2 or 3, the Banker draws if he has 0-4, and stands if he has 5-7.
  4. If the Player drew a 4 or 5, the Banker draws if he has 0-5, and stands if he has 6-7.
  5. If the Player drew a 6 or 7, the Banker draws if he has 0-6, and stands if he has 7.
  6. If the Player drew an 8, the Banker draws if he has 0-2, and stands if he has 3-7.
  7. If the Player drew an ace, 9, 10, or face-card, the Banker draws if he has 0-3, and stands if he has 4-7.

In most instances the payouts are 1-1 to the player and 95% tot the banker and 5% to the house.
When the player and the banker’s hands are of equal value, the tie bets are paid out at 8 to 1 odds.
