How to Play Roulette

We would like to give you a short introduction into how to play roulette. This will get you going at a land-based casino or online casino in no time. We would also cover the bets you would be able to place when you play roulette.

When you play roulette in a land-based casino you will more than likely be playing with a few other players. The first thing you need to do is to place a bet and once all the bets are placed, the roulette wheel is spun and the ball is released. Based on what number the ball lands on, the winner is determined.

This is the biggest part you need to know if you want to learn how to play roulette. As simple as that

There are quite a few ways in which you can bet when you play roulette and we would like to point out these different betting options to you.

Straight bet
A roulette table divided into various sections and the most basic of these are the numbers. There are 3 columns of numbers numbered from 1-36 as well as the 0 and 00 (the double zero is not present at European roulette though). The odds on betting on one of the numbers is at 35 to 1.

Red/Black bet

Half of these numbers are coloured black and the other half are red, except for the 0 which would be green. You would also be able to bet on either red or black and this pays out 1 to 1.

Odd/Even bet
You would also be able to either on an even or odd number and this pays 1 to 1.

Low/High bet
A bet that the number will either fall in the range of lower numbers (1-18) or the range of high numbers (19-36). Pays even money 1 to 1.

Columns bet
A bet on the 12 numbers contained in any one of the three long columns on the layout. Therefore betting either on either a number from 1-12, 13-24 or 25-36 being the number the ball comes to rest on. There would be a place for these bets at the bottom of the columns of numbers. When you bet on one of the columns it pays 2 to 1.

Dozens bet
This is a bet on either the first dozen numbers (1-12), the second dozen (13-24), or the third dozen (25-36) and it pays 2 to 1.

Split bets
The most common other bet is a split bet and there are two combinations of numbers you would be able to bet on. If you bet on two numbers next to each other you place your bet on the line between the two numbers 15 to 1. If you want to bet on 4 numbers that are lying in a block you place your bet where the 4 numbers meet and this pays 8 to 1.

A street bet
This is a single bet that covers three numbers in a row. Place your chip on the outside line of the row you want to bet. Pays 11 to 1.

Five-number bet
It can only be played in one instance as there is only one five-number bet. Place your chip at the corner of the intersection of 0, 1, and the first dozen. This bet covers 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3. Pays 6 to 1. Logically this would only be applicable if you play roulette at an American roulette table.

Six-number bet
This is better known as a “line bet”. This bet covers two adjacent rows of numbers. To make this bet, place your chip on one of the outside lines at the intersection of two rows. This bet pays 5 to 1.

This covers all the bets you can possibly make on a roulette table when you play roulette.

Well that covers it… class dismissed!
